Well, I try to get a great big glass of ice water when I'm feeling snacky, and have one with every 50-100 calories I eat. It's hard not to get bloaty-full when you do that, then it's not all that pleasant to overeat.
Here are some things I love to snack on:
6 oz roasted potatoes with garlic (cut up fingerling potatoes into 1" chunks and bake for 45 min. Add chopped garlic about 20 minutes before it's done. A spray of Pam keeps it from sticking - but just a spray on the pan)
Carrot chips and red pepper dipped in fat free salsa.
Sliced apple with light Laughing Cow cheese spread on the slices
Flat Out wrap with seed mustard, spinach, red onion, and sliced red pepper
You can add a light Laughing Cow cheese spread on the above
Sliced chilled cucumber with garlic powder
Carrot slices, red pepper, scallions, raw french green beans, or whatever fresh veggie you love, with 2 Tbs hummus
Spinach (3 cups) and thinly sliced red onion salad with dressing of red wine vinegar, water, lemon pepper, and a tiny sprinkle of splenda
1 red pepper, 1/4 red onion, 1 cup sugar snap peas, marinated in 1 t canola oil,
1 T rice vinegar or red wine vinegar, and dried basil to taste
1/2 can of low sodium Progresso Chicken Gumbo soup with a little hot sauce and red wine vinegar Eat the whole can and you'll be stuffed. I often to this when I didn't have time to pack a good lunch.
Light string cheese
Baked apple. OH MY GOD. Peel, core, and cut into chunks an apple (7 ounces is around 100 calories and a teensy bit of fat). Spray a pan with one quick spray of cooking spray. Sprinkle with a little cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, or whatever you like. Bake for 30 minutes. This is no guilt apple pie.
1 cup carrot chips, 1/2 cup onion chopped, 1 red pepper cut in 1" pieces, 20 fresh basil leaves, and 20 string beans chopped in 1" pieces, and chopped cukes - with a dressing of 1 tsp olive oil, 4 tsp rice vinegar, 2 tsp water, and salt & pepper. This is so filling and full of flavor.
Sugar free pudding
Swiss Miss Diet 25 Calorie Hot Cocoa Mix. It's hot and desserty and filling. It has that great smell too. Very satisfying.
Another technique I've used is to put on a favorite song and dance my butt off before deciding to eat. Sometime it makes me feel so energized, I'm not focusing on eating anymore. But usually I just eat a snack anyhow :)
